Poll Time: Do folk want detailed episode summaries as part of my blog?

Should I keep doing detailed episode summaries in my "Supernatural" blog posts, or just jump straight into the commentary/meta analysis and production notes stuff? (Check as many boxes as apply!)

Nuke the detailed summaries - cut to the chase!
Keep the detailed summaries - they add to the experience!
I don't care about the detailed summaries one way or the other.
They're useful in helping me focus on details.
I never read that part of your blog anyway.
I like your detailed summaries for reasons of my own.
I don't need 'em; I already saw the show myself!
They let me see the episode through your eyes.
Do whatever gets your blogs out faster.

ETA:  Thanks for all the input, folks: I've decided to keep the detailed summaries coming. :)

I admit, I never read your episode summaries and just jump to the meta part right away. Since I've usually watched an episode 2-3 times by the time you post your review, I really don't need a reminder. However, I say you should keep them, here's why: I have someone on my flist who reads my reviews in lieu of watching the show. She can't receive the network SPN airs on and just keeps herself in the loop by reading my reviews. Now, I don't do summaries and just write meta, referring to scenes as I go along, and I always feel bad that I don't have summaries for her to get an impression of what's actually happening, plotwise. I think for readers like her your blog provides a better access point for episodes, because it is more comprehensive. So, yeah, I think summaries make a lot of sense, as not everyone may have watched the episode you are talking about. ;)

I may not always read summaries, but when I do, I tend to find them interesting, because other people often focus on other things than I would. I often find that they noticed stuff I might have missed in my own view of an ep.

I do read the whole summary - howvever whether you have it or not I would read your review, just as those who don't read the summaries will still read your reviews even if they are there. So do what makes you feel the most satisfied

I'll go back and check the summery if you mention something in your meta that I can't quite recall. My feeling is, it's your journal, do what you want. Plenty of people just recap the epsiode.

I'll confess that I'm here for your commentary about the episode more than anything. There are three or four reviewers I enjoy reading because you all have your own ideas about what's important, but I generally don't read the summaries.

Eppie summeries
I like reading your episode summaries because a lot of the time they shed new light on a certain part of a scene that I didn't notice before. I find them extremely useful but I also know that you are a busy gal and putting that together takes a lot of your time and effort. So, though I would miss them, I'd completely understand you doing away with them.. I just love your metas SO much and want you to keep doing them. So whatever helps, Im down with!

I think you should do whatever you want, hon. I mean, do you enjoy writing them? Is the time required to put these things in writing worth it to you?

Personally, I like your reviews though sometimes I do skip them and head straight for the meta... only because I don't have time to read everything I want to read. Your reviews are always interesting and well-written.

I know that the summaries and commentaries are a lot of work for you, and you should, of course, drop them if it is too much, but I voted to keep them as I live in the UK and therefore rely on your summaries to keep me up to date! I do sometimes read other summaries, too, but I never feel as though I have really "seen" an episode until I have visited your blog.

I'd say keep it as is - summaries and analysis. Most of the time I agree with everything you say, though you've worded it far more coherently than I could *g* and almost every time you pick up on a nuance or two that I missed. Then there are the times when I missed the point completely and you showed me another aspect of the espisode I hadn't thought of!

So, yes, please keep on with business as usual...

Of course it's your journal - it's up to you!
If you want to spend less time, maybe you could cut the summaries a bit to just the stuff that may or may not have been noticed by other people rather than the whole plot outlined?

Whether to keep detailed summary or not?
I normally skip the detailed summary and go straight to your analysis/commentary.
historylover29historylover29 on October 5th, 2010 12:01 pm (UTC)
I also always scroll to your commentary, because I've seen the episode. However, I have a couple of episodes coming up that I will have to miss. I'll try to watch them on-line, because, unfortunately, I won't be able to record at least one of them (moving and won't have cable for a couple days). In those episodes, I'd love to have the detailed summaries.

But, normally, I don't need them. But, definitely keep up the commentary!

Loved your meta on 6:01. I live in the UK and have now found out how to download the episodes and can read meta along with the show. You articulated everything that I felt and you did it so well. have friended you to keep up with your reviews if that's okay.

Looking forward to 6:02.

I have to admit I never read them and go straight to your excellent meta part.
But I do think it's useful for soembody that hasn't seen the episode and wants to see if it's worth watching.
