Day Twenty-Five of 41 Days of Metallicar ...
Continuing my constantly jumping point of view, here's my latest contribution for day 25 of the 41 Days of Metallicar celebration. The countdown proceeds apace!

***********************************
Things Unspoken

The strangest thing was seeing Dean asleep in the front seat.

Months after Dean picked him up at Stanford, Sam still couldn’t get used to that. From the moment Dad had given him the car, Dean had made the rules: Dean drove and Sam rode shotgun. Dean never offered him the keys. He got to drive only when Dad ordered him on errands alone, or if Dean was hurt or sick.

So when Dean silently tossed him the keys and slept, he felt unbalanced.

He’d never before heard Dean say, I need you, and had it mean him, not Dad.

***********************************

The Winchester communication dynamic continues to fascinate me -- so much is said without words, or with words unconnected to underlying meanings! They're such guys ...

AWWW man, I read all your Metallicar drabbles, but this one stroke me as especially wonderful. I love that Sam translates Dean's action to 'I need you'. Beautiful! ♥ ♥

Thank you! I had to beat this one up a lot to make it work and convey what I intended; I'm glad to know that it worked!

Oh, SAM.

That's lovely. And you're right - they say so much without saying anything at all.

Thank you! I'm honored ... and trying to do in words what those boys do with just their eyes is a bitch!!!

Man, ain't that the truth! The emotions these boys exchange in one look at each other floor me every time. I feel your pain to capture it in words, I never feel that I am able to capture that in my art either! We're so blessed to have the JJs on our show! ♥

Gosh, that's brilliant. I love these little ficlets (if you can even call them that). They're so short, but they're extremely deep. I love how you can make my jaw drop and brain think with just a hundred words. Wonderful writing. :)

Thank you very much! (And welcome, by the way; glad to see you making yourself at home here! I hope you keep enjoying yourself with what you find ...)

I can totally picture Sam and Dean playing the scene like that. Like you said...they're such guys...
Perfect!

Thanks! Their faces are so expressive that it's hard to come anywhere close to conveying kn words what they put across without them ...

Oh BOYS!!!!

*smishes them*

He’d never before heard Dean say, I need you, and had it mean him, not Dad. *cries*

Thank you, Rap! I beat up variations on that sentence for damn near two hours before I felt I'd finally gotten it right ...

Absolutely. Which is why it is so hard for me to buy fics where the boys pour their hearts out like a couple of teenage girls. Like, some of those words aren't even in their conscious vocabulary and Dean would probably wash his mouth out with lye if he ever used them.

But that is not to say that he is incapable of great sensitivity and tact; just look at Provenance when he was gently urging Sam to give Sarah a chance. Just ... beautiful. Sweet, a little hesistant, but never unkind and with utter sensitivity.

Love the way you illustrate that in this fic; the wonder of Winchester communication.

Thank you! I have a great appreciation for Dean's understanding, and not a lot of patience for uncharacteristic emotional gushing. but I can appreciate the difficulty in trying to write them when your reader can't see them doing their bst nonverbal communication thing ... *grin*

No words necessary between these two. A glance or an action saying more that words can begin to assume.

Awesome portrayal of just one of those moments.

Thank you! Trying to capture in words what they do so effortlessly was a real challenge, but I'm happy with how this turned out.
