Day Twelve of 41 Days of Metallicar ...
I had a shitty day at work. Tomorrow promises more of the same. I am therefore very, very grateful that I have this to preserve my sanity:  here is my 100-word contribution to day twelve of the 41 Days of Metallicar celebration.

Never Be
Once upon a time he’d looked into the trunk and seen nothing but a spare tire, a litter of crushed cups, a handful of magazines, a couple of stray CDs, a flashlight, and a few rags and tools. And the floor of the trunk.
It had only been a dream, of course. He didn’t think he’d ever actually seen the floor of the trunk, even growing up. Even before the weapons and tools totally supplanted clothes, books, and toys, they’d always lived out of it, cramming it full of family.
That empty trunk? Just a wasted life.

And not his.

Maybe tomorrow will be better after all.

BTW -- my icon on this one?  Is a photo of my little model Impala, with its trunk happily loaded with miniature weapons and tools. There are shotguns, handguns, machetes, knives, shovels, a sniper rifle, bolt cutters, and even -- yes! -- a chainsaw!  Oh, and a spare tire ...  *grin*

Hi Mary!

I haven't been spending a lot of time on LJ recently, but have been really enjoying your dribbles (am I remembering the name correctly?).

Thank you for sharing your talent with us, and I really hope that work gets better, and fast!!

Great job with the Impala trunk! I'm still smiling at the thought of you with reading glasses on trying to load table salt into a teeny tiny shotgun!

That's drabbles, my little goat, as you well know! *grin*

Well, I srvived today, and so far, I've still managed to nail every fricking impossible deadline. We'll see if I can keep it up ... until the day I dump the office and drive down to Eyecon!

Actually, I'd take off the glasses to load the mini-rock-salt shot; I've been massively nearsighted since third grade, and I still take off my bifocals for the really close detail work! (And I haven't yet found a little tiny bag of salt ...)
