Day Seven of 41 Days of Metallicar ...
Another almost-too-late entry for today's 41 Days of Metallicar post!  This one -- yet another 100-word drabble -- goes back to the very beginning ...

He’d become so accustomed to compensating for things being unbalanced that the return to what should have been normality left him uncertain, like a healed limb freed from a heavy cast but still expecting the weight.

He stole a covert sideways glance to reassure himself that Sam really was in the passenger seat. From the day Dad bought the truck and gave him the Impala, he’d always had Sam riding shotgun. Then came Stanford, and he’d been alone.

Sam was back where he belonged, but now his knees bumped the dash.

Dean wondered how many other ways they wouldn’t fit.

I'm not as pleased with this one as with the others so far, but -- there's always tomorrow!

Oh, and while you're here looking at this -- isn't the new layout GLORIOUS?  The color background and the animated, five-part header were gifts from the wonderful, splendiferous

cakehole_cat.  Thanks, Cat!!!

Nice one, Mary! And you're right, your layout is gorgeous! And rotating banner, FTW! Love it!

Thank you! I never fail to be thrilled by what Cat comes up with whenever I throw her an idea ... and then there are the things she does even without asking, like coming up with the sequential header and the beautiful, bright background (to help set off all the angst). Wheee!

I think this is my fave one so far! It tells so much with so few words.

And your new layout is gorgeous!

Beat the drum for Cat!

I'm glad you're liking this - and I'm REALLY glad with how well the photobook for Jared is going!!!

You may not be happy with it, my friend, but I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.

Meanwhile, the new colors are spectacular. I like the rotating banner, however, I have to say ... the one - "Preserve your memories" ... *sigh*

The word "beautiful" just does not do it justice.

Tee-hee: I fell in love with what she did with my "Bookends" request, and made a comment that I wished I could show more of her things at once ... and suddenly, there was an animated banner! And "Bookends" was part of it!

The "Flirtin' With Disaster" quad built on the banner she made for me a year ago over on LJ, which I haven't changed because I love it so much. To see that one, go take a look in my Photobucket here: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/Bardicvoice/Supernatural/BVCCFlirtinbigbanner.jpg

It's amazing! And I just wish I could display everything she's done for me ...

Kickin' it old school, huh, Mary? ;)

Excellent story. And gorgeous new layout.

I'm thinking I might do drabbles for the episodes, the same way I did haiku. I'm really enjoying the discipline and the challenge of doing this 100-word story thing ...

Oh, don't be displeased! It's beautifully done, as always. I love the image of the limb freed from its cast but expecting the weight.

Great project you have going - every day we get a new wee ficcie. I like that.

I feel better about it today; it grew on me.

Everything that happens in real life feeds the muse eventually. I suffered a stress fracture in my left foot a couple of months ago, and clumped around in a boot for six weeks. I got acclimated quickly, to the point where people didn't even notice from my stride that I was wearing it (it helped that the boot was black and I always live in black jeans), but when it came off, well, that felt as wrong as when it went on!

I'm really enjoying doing these; they're a challenge to execute. It feels good to be exercising those "writing discipline" muscles ... *grin*

I love my Cat ...

Did you look at my other "Flirtin'" banner, the one I linked in my reply to Cindy? It's eye-popping! I had Cat do that one because I really heard that as Dean's theme song coming into season three ...
