Submarine Races

Every town had one. In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it was a scenic overlook on Lake Michigan where couples parked to “watch the submarine races.” Yeah: Midwestern humor. With some monster killing local teenagers, though, the submarines were racing unwatched this Valentine’s Day night, except by him. Alone.

Waiting, watching, he wondered idly whether his parents had ever parked somewhere like this. He wondered whether Sammy had found a girl, out there in Palo Alto, and a car. He wondered if his Dad was lonely.

He kissed his fingertips, and then reached out to touch the Impala’s dashboard.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, sweetheart.”

Edited to say ... holy crap! I didn't recognise my own reply, because I'm seeing some weird icon NOT my own, on the post I just made ... Do you see it? Some weird cartoony chick?

You wanna know a BIG funny? My email notification provided your message twice: once with an Impala-and-shack icon, and once with the flaky cartoon chick. On my LJ, I saw only the cartoon chick ... until tonight when I had the ability to respond, where I saw a DIFFERENT Impala icon than I'd seen in the one on the notification email.

How weird is that? I think LJ is haunted!!
