I Mourn Kim Manners: Director, Executive Producer, Gift to the Heart

High crane, deep contrast:
Tracking shot, long walk and talk --
Just one tear.  Cut!  Print.

Thank you, Kim. Thank you more than I can say. I never met you, but I've loved you and your work for many years, and I weep for your loss. I can't imagine how devastated the entire Supernatural family must be, when I, who never met you, feel this way.

I have no more words; only tears and grief, and prayers for those left behind.

You will never be forgotten.

Never.

"I read for Sam ..."

It's just so sad. *weeps*

I can't stop crying. It's selfish, I know, but I so regret never having had the chance to meet him, to ask him questions, to tell him how much I enjoyed all the things he did.

Damn.

"I read for Sam ..."

I'll never forget that phrase, Mary. Its a sad, sad day.

I watched the Paley Festival recording again tonight (just finished ...), and I laughed and cried my whole way through. Kim talking about getting Jensen to lower Dean's walls in Shadow? So brilliant ...

So missed.

Before Supernatural I never paid attention to who directed what episode of a show. I never really cared that much. But with this show I learned to appreciate what each director brings to the show and I especially loved Kim Manners' work. He's directed most of my favorite episodes. It's just so hard to believe he's gone.

I've followed Kim avidly since he joined The X-Files. He was a master of the walk and talk, and of getting actors to show the cracks in characters ... God, I miss him already, and I can't imagine what this will mean to Supernatural. I'm selfish; I want him back.

My heart keeps breaking over & over again, every time I read a new posting about Kim.

How is it possible that I even have anything left?

Kim, you are truly one of the greats & we will miss you dearly, but we will never forget your talent & what a wonderful man you were.

Word, Rap.

Word.

I'm as you, my dear friend. I heard the news and couldn't believe. I get so tired some days of losing people ... people I know and care about, people I don't know but whom I respect, admire and/or appreciate. Kim Manners was one of these. He helped to open the world of Supernatural and by his vision continued to help make it even more real.

My sadness is deep. My absolute dream, besides seeing The Boys was to be able to personally view a panel with him and The Kripke and Sera, for they were my first behind the scenes people who grabbed my attention and continued to dominate my respect. Others have come, but they were the first.

*hugs*

Oh, Keeper - I so wanted to meet the man and ask questions and listen and watch ... Even before Supernatural, I loved him for The X-Files and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., among other things.

I've calmed down some, but the ache is as deep as ever.

*hugs back*

What a thing to come home to. We've all lost something special.

Truly. This is going to hurt for a long, long time.

I agree with your words.

I loved him.

Oh Mary. That's perfect.

All day yesterday and my first thought this morning when I woke up was still that I can't wrap my head around this. It's just devastating on so many levels. I can't stop crying for a man I never met but yet feel like I knew so well. Its crazy.

"I read for Sam ..."

:) The man was not only brilliant but hilarious.

I've been working on remembering the good and wonderful and funny things. Today I laughed remembering Kim, when asked what Jared and Jensen would be if they were dogs, immediately saying that Jared would be Pluto and Jensen would be Rin Tin Tin, and when the boys were asked the same thing, Jensen instantly saying that Kim would be Benji - "Because he's little. And cute!"

God, this breaks my heart. I wish I could hug the whole Supernatural family.

A man whom we have never met who had enriched our lives and our fandom in countless of ways. He will be missed.

Rest in peace, Kim Manners.

Dear Mary,

I poored a glass of wine and was all set to enjoy your review.

I clicked on "my favourite" Bardic's descant.

I was so not prepared for the shock when I read about Kim Manner's death.

But I'm glad you are the one who "told" me, cause you have a way with words.
Thank you for honouring Kim Manners with your beautiful haiku and your kind words.

My heart goes out to all who are left behind.

Ruth

Oh, Ruth, I'm sorry to have borne such sorrowful news, but grateful that hearing it from me helped.

It's going to be a long, long time before this ache lessens at all. We've lost so much.

We mourn together, as we have so often rejoiced together.

At least we know that, since we live while we are yet remembered, something of Kim will live on as long as we do.

I'd offer Kleenex, but I've used it all ... I will mourn for a long, long time.

It's indeed a sad sad time!

I loved all the episodes that he directed, there was just that special magic even if I didn't know that he did. And when I saw his name at the end, I said Yeah that's why it was so awesome, because it's Kim Manners' work!

A great loss and my heart and prayers go out to everyone who knew him, who was fortunate enough to spend time with him!

RIP Kim Manners!

Thank you for adding to Kim's tribute - he definitely earned it.

I miss him, and I can't imagine how badly those who actually knew him must feel.

The world has indeed lost a great creative force. Thank you for posting this. Kim Manners was really one of the very first directors I ever took notice of -- beginning with the X-Files, though I did realize retro-actively that I had enjoyed him on Simon and Simon before I was even aware of such things. He was one of the reasons I started watching Supernatural... He was such a driving force on the show -- how it looks, the continuity between episodes and directors, and the way the characters developed. I was so shocked at hearing the news of his death, but I'd already been wondering at his absence from the show. I fear we have already begun to see the ramifications of his loss in the show...
My thoughts and prayers are with both his families...

Thank you for adding to Kim's tribute here; he really will be missed. I'm with you in having followed his career for decades; I was really delighted when I saw his name on Supernatural, and I grieve that I won't see it again on more new things.
