Day Thirty-One of 41 Days of Metallicar
Now that we've reached day 31 of the 41 Days of Metallicar celebration, I'm pretty confident that I'll manage to pull off a 100-word drabble each day through the arrival of the new season. I had my doubts along the way, but now I'm feeling pretty good!

****************************
Zen

Driving was good for both thinking and non-thinking. Sam never got that; he always focused too much on the task to experience the zen.

Dean never had to think about controlling the car; she was part of him, like his muscles. Dad had trained his situational awareness until it was second nature, so he was always almost subliminally aware of traffic for as far as he could see in all directions. He perceived and he adjusted, all without conscious thought. It was soothing.

Behind the wheel, he could solve problems or retreat from them all.

He wished that Sam could.

*******************************
This reflects my own view of driving, pretty much ... my deanishness!!

Dean, always worrying about Sam. Is it Sept 18th yet?

Almost! We're getting there! (Very slowly ...)

I love this because it is EXACTLY how I perceive Dean and his driving his girl. It fits with the way Jensen portrays him while driving, keeping his eyes focused more forward, as though he truly is aware of the road stretching before him, which makes his facial expressions when talking with Sam even more intense. Am I saying this right? It's like that moment in NRFTW when Sam starts with the "if this doesn't work out" speech and Dean, whose focus was driving, cuts his eyes over towards Sam with a "whoa, whoa, whoa". Then his eyes shift their focus back to the road as he drives and talks. It's a detail that makes it all that much more real.

Plus, I'm right there with you Mary! I love getting in my little red Baby and zoning with my music and my thoughts. Roadtrips are the best!

I definitely see Dean experiencing the zen of driving, that peculiar combination of total awareness and perfect relaxation. And that's exactly the way that Jensen portrays him on the road: casual competence and absolute comfort.

You in your red Baby, and me in my silver, topless Skywise ... see you on the road, friend! I can't wait until 9/24, when I hit the road for Orlando and Eyecon!

Dean + Metallicar = soulmates

*sigh* Poor Sammy. Metallicar will never truly be his mistress but she'll still keep him safe.

Random pervy thoughts? Heaven forfend!

And while she will never be his mistress, Sam will keep her well, even as she keeps him safe.

But I so want to see them all together again!
