Day Twelve of 41 Days of Metallicar ...
I had a shitty day at work. Tomorrow promises more of the same. I am therefore very, very grateful that I have this to preserve my sanity:  here is my 100-word contribution to day twelve of the 41 Days of Metallicar celebration.

************************************
Never Be

Once upon a time he’d looked into the trunk and seen nothing but a spare tire, a litter of crushed cups, a handful of magazines, a couple of stray CDs, a flashlight, and a few rags and tools. And the floor of the trunk.

It had only been a dream, of course. He didn’t think he’d ever actually seen the floor of the trunk, even growing up. Even before the weapons and tools totally supplanted clothes, books, and toys, they’d always lived out of it, cramming it full of family.

That empty trunk? Just a wasted life.

And not his.

*************************************

Maybe tomorrow will be better after all.

BTW -- my icon on this one?  Is a photo of my little model Impala, with its trunk happily loaded with miniature weapons and tools. There are shotguns, handguns, machetes, knives, shovels, a sniper rifle, bolt cutters, and even -- yes! -- a chainsaw!  Oh, and a spare tire ...  *grin*

Oh, DEAN.

I don't think my dad has seen the floor of his trunk, either. Not since he bought the car. 'Tis a common condition. That trunk with the Maxim mag, the cups, and a couple other odds and ends? Just so wrong. It looked nekkid.

Sorry about the sucky day! Hope tomorrow is an improvement. Just remind yourself - season 3 DVDs coming! Season 4 coming! EyeCon coming!

Heh - I can pretty well see the floor of my trunk. Just my collection of reusable shopping bags (no paper, no plastic for me!); my electric tire pump; my snow brush, squeege, and ice scraper; my GPS (whenever it's not on my dash); a couple of caps; and my hoodie (so I can run topless even when it's cool!). My spare tire hides in the well. But then, my family always had clean trunks. And lived in the same house.

Believe me, I'm currently living for the DVDs, the new season, and the topless run down to Eyecon!

I love all this getting to know the Impala better.

And every time I look in the Impala, I see Dean. Every time. Sometimes I see John or Sam too, but I always see Dean.

Funny how that works.

I'm right there with you, my friend. I KNOW that she belonged to John first, but I can truly only see him on the outside. And Sam is the constant shotgun. But Dean ... he's all over her - inside and out/under the hood and in the trunk - the smell of her leather seats, blended with gun/knife oil, snack foods, and the scent of dark nights on back country roads is the musky cologne that is Dean.

Nekkid!Impala trunk is just...wrong. So very, very, VERY wrong!!!!!

That empty trunk? Just a wasted life.

And not his.
Oh Dean!!!

Sorry today was so crappy, Mary. I hope things get better soon! Also? I freakin' LOVE that icon! W00T! Mini!Impala with Bonus!Toolage! I haven't loaded mine up yet.

I wasn't sure where this drabble was going when I started, but I'm very glad that it wound up with a positive conclusion. We all know Dean's life was never wasted; I liked the idea that he would recognize that, too. *wibble*

Loading up your trunk is a LOT of fun! In addition to the junk in the boot, mine sits on display in a clear case with the driver's door open, a handgun on the driver's seat, and a wee little laptop and cellphone on Sammy's side. There's a briefcase tossed in the back seat - they must've been impersonating someone officious!

Heeee! I'm planning on finding a leather jacket (or making one if I can't find one that's the right size) to throw across the front seat!!!

I love how much emotion you can convey in just 100 words.

And your mini!Metallicar icon is awesome! Do you have bigger pictures of it? It sounds awesome!

Thank you! I'll do a photoshoot of my little Impala tomorrow, on my day off; I'll definitely post a link here somewhere!

Hi Mary!

I haven't been spending a lot of time on LJ recently, but have been really enjoying your dribbles (am I remembering the name correctly?).

Thank you for sharing your talent with us, and I really hope that work gets better, and fast!!

Great job with the Impala trunk! I'm still smiling at the thought of you with reading glasses on trying to load table salt into a teeny tiny shotgun!
bardicvoice: SuperMiniPala by <lj user=janglyjewels>bardicvoice on August 22nd, 2008 12:36 am (UTC)
That's drabbles, my little goat, as you well know! *grin*

Well, I srvived today, and so far, I've still managed to nail every fricking impossible deadline. We'll see if I can keep it up ... until the day I dump the office and drive down to Eyecon!

Actually, I'd take off the glasses to load the mini-rock-salt shot; I've been massively nearsighted since third grade, and I still take off my bifocals for the really close detail work! (And I haven't yet found a little tiny bag of salt ...)
